ITINERARY
Spain in Spring!

We hope you and your students are excited to travel to Spain this week. The following information will help you prepare for your flight and sightseeing tour. If you have any questions, please contact Senora Concessi, Mrs. DeLeone, or Mrs. Deutl.
First, check the FLIGHT SCHEDULE to find out when your class will be boarding the plane. Please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled flight time and have the following items with you:
- Passport
- Boarding Pass
- Luggage (restrictions allow for 1 backpack per student ONLY)
NOTE: You will not need any money as this trip is FREE! You will
need your imagination on this trip and you might want to bring a
camera to capture these memories forever!
The boarding gate is located on the 2nd level (conference room) where Porters will take your luggage and direct to you to Security. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents will need to see your PASSPORT and BOARDING PASS before allowing you to proceed to the ticket agent.
This is a transatlantic flight so a light snack will be served.
When your plane lands in Madrid, flight attendants will direct your group to Customs and Immigration for some brief questions. If all goes well, students’ PASSPORTS will be stamped, allowing their entry into Spain. Don’t forget to pick up your bags at the luggage carousel!
SIGHTSEEING IN SPAIN
Groups should feel free to tour the country at their own pace. If you need directions or assistance there are several tour guides available at the Plaza Mayor (located on the opposite corner of the gym).
Here are some places you will want to visit while in Spain:
- Plaza Mayor - city center where you will find street entertainers and people gathered. (You might see some famous people here.)
- Guggenheim Museum - modern and contemporary art in Bilbao
- Parque Guell - see the major works of Gaudi in Barcelona
- The Cave at Altamira - magnificent prehistoric paintings and engravings
- Beach at Malaga - miles of beautiful, sandy beaches!
- El Toro Cafe - authentic Spanish cuisine, tapas style.
Most tour groups will stay 30-45 minutes, but please spend as much time as you’d like in the beautiful country of Spain and enjoy the sights!
Remember… when in Spain, speak the language!!

In Summary
Collaborating closely with our Spanish, Art, and Technology teachers, I planned a virtual trip to Spain for students in grades preschool through 7th grade. Our principal, parish priest, and a student's grandparent volunteered as airline pilots and co-pilots for the day. We converted our conference room into life-like Boeing 747 complete with small seats and a aisle narrow enough to wheel a small snack cart through. Our 6th and 7th grade students acted as flight attendants, customs and TSA agents. Passengers carried their own passports and boarding passes created during computer class and felt as if they were really traveling abroad as they enjoyed a five minute flight to Madrid from Boston. A simulated take-off and landing video helped make the flight seem a bit more real to everyone.Students deplaned and continued onto the gymnasium which had been transformed into the lovely country of Spain. They were greeted by King Phillip and visited museums, caves, a cafe serving tapas, and of course, a stop at Malaga Beach to relax before returning to their classrooms. Our 6th and 7th graders acted as tour guides, street performers, and cafe wait staff. This virtual trip was a culmination of many weeks immersed in the culture and art of Spain. Students remarked that it really seemed like we visited Spain! Students and staff could be heard speaking Spanish fluently throughout the day. Impressive writing pieces followed our day of travel creating even more interest in traveling and learning more about other foreign countries, as well as cities in our very own United States.
